The city of Stavanger is located on the southwest coast of Norway, in Rogaland County, and is an important cultural, business and tourist center. It combines the charms of its historic old town with modern infrastructure and the unique atmosphere of a major harbor.
Of particular note is the Gamle Stavanger district also known as the Old Town. The colorful wooden houses are a pure delight embodying the atmosphere of Norway from the days gone by, and numerous narrow cobblestone streets lead to boutique art galleries, cafes and restaurants offering local specialties. The city is also an excellent starting point for exploring the spectacular landscapes of the Rogaland region, including some of Norway’s most recognizable attractions.
